Whether it is used for a cosy fire on a winter’s evening, to cook our lunch during a Saturday afternoon braai, to enhance our homes in a variety of beautiful and functional ways, or as a vital component in the construction of these homes – wood is part of our daily lives, regardless of technological advances.
With an abundance of natural forests and the perfect climate for cultivating plantations, Knysna has a rich woodworking heritage, and the Working with Wood Festival celebrates this legacy.
Taking place from 8 to 10 October, at the Premier Hotel in George Rex Drive, this Knysna event will showcase every aspect of the timber industry, from carvings to construction, with a variety of stands and exhibitors, featuring –
• Tools
• Hardware
• Accessories
• Furniture
• Fixtures
• Decor
• Crafts
• Wooden Art
• Gifts
The Festival offers a unique opportunity for you to learn more about the role of wood in construction and technology as well as the latest trendy and innovative uses for timber. An added bonus this year will be the arrival of the power tool manufacturer STIHL Big Rig, the mobile granddaddy of all display units. With much to see, watch and do, your appetite for learning will be appeased while your hunger for food and thirst can be quenched as you grab a taste of local goodness at the food stalls or beer garden on hand.
In addition to being an interesting place to browse and learn, this Knysna Festival is an important showground for the timber industry, small businesses and local crafters to show off their products and services to a wide audience. As a result, the occasion was well attended during its launch last year, and is a worthy add-on to your ‘things to do in Knysna’ checklist.
After the success of the inaugural festival, Knysna Tourism and the local timber industry have embraced the event. This means added punch for the 2015 festival, with the addition of a commercial and sales aspect to the agenda. Along with workshops; live demonstrations and informative talks; latest trends and new technology, the newly branded event will be known as the Knysna Timber Festival.
Out-of-towners eager to attend the festival will find a wide range of luxury accommodation options available in Knysna.
