1. Camera
This seems like an obvious item, but it’s often the most simple things that are forgotten. The incredible vegetation and quaint towns along the N2 are the stuff postcards are made of. Make sure your camera is charged so you can take advantage of all the snap-worthy scenery.

2. Comfortable shoes or hiking boots
There are incredible hiking trails and trekking routes all along the Garden Route. Even if hiking isn’t your thing, take a pair of comfortable walking shoes so you’ll be at ease whether you’re exploring the streets of new towns or spending the afternoon in a nature reserve.

3. Warm Clothing
Winters in the Western Cape are typically from June to August, and they are known to be crisp and wet. It is likely that the sun will come out during the day, but make sure you have layers for early morning and evening as the temperatures can drop rapidly. That being said, South African weather doesn’t follow any set rules, so pack your sun-hat and a pair of shorts just in case.

4. Windproof Jacket
When you’re out on the Knysna lagoon enjoying your sunset cruise, you don’t want the wind nipping through to ruin your evening. While there are blankets provided onboard of the Turbine Waterclub cruises, you’ll be more mobile with a good jacket that can keep out the wind.

5. Binoculars
Wooded and subtropical, the Garden Route is the perfect environment for a wide range of diverse birdlife. Make sure you pack your binoculars so you don’t miss unique bird viewing opportunities.

6. Umbrella
The rain does tend to pay a visit every now and again, so make sure that you’re prepared for that. But don’t worry, these days are best spent cuddling up at Turbine Boutique Hotel & Spa with a cup of hot chocolate and watching the cold front come in.
