It’s time to toast the good life! The Sasfin Plett Wine & Bubbly Festival is hitting the Garden Route with a bang for the third year running this weekend. On the 8th and the 9th of October 2016, the Plettenberg Bay area will welcome local wineries to present their stunning wines and Methode Cap Classique for your tasting pleasure.
This celebration of the regions’ finest wines and liveliest bubbles will take place on the Plettenberg Central Beach, and encourages aficionados and amateurs alike to sample over 30 wines from 10 different wineries. This up-and-coming region is new on sommeliers’ lists, but the bubbles that come from this area have maintained their place in award ceremonies for a number of years. The freshest varieties will be on display, and you can enjoy the different variations of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Méthode Cap Classique in a full day of tasting.
The Grand Tasting is the event’s biggest attraction, and it showcases gourmet foods from the best restaurants in the area, as well as an impressive selection of local wines and bubblies. The Sasfin Plett Wine & Bubbly Festival offers an opportunity to taste some of the country’s best at the water’s edge, surrounded by the salty sea air, and breathtaking views.
That being said, the wines are not all there is to get excited about. The festival promises a wide range of entertainment, from a fantastic line-up of musicians to an array of knowledgeable speakers and adventure events. Your toes will be tapping to the beat of South Africa’s favourite musicians. You can look forward to performers like Arno Carstens, Albert Frost, and Ben Dey and the Concrete Lions, crafting the perfect soundtrack to your weekend.
For an additional R20 you can book your spot at the Wine Theatre on Sunday at 2pm, and glean knowledge from well-known wine columnists and enthusiast, PeeBee, as well as other talented winemakers in the area as they share their experiences and expertise. Other events to look out for are the Great Gatsby Dinner Dance, the Tour de Plett MTB Cycle Race, and the Robberg Xpress Trail Run.
The Dress Code is Blue and White, in honour of the ocean, and the bubbles themselves, and make sure to wear a hat as well! There are prizes for the best dressed so make sure you don’t miss out.
The tickets are R200 for Single Day Entries, and R350 for a Weekend Pass. Tickets include 10 free tastings, R20 off your first bottle purchased and a bubbly flute. The festival runs from 13h00 – 20h00 on Saturday, and Sunday from 12h00 – 20h00. Get your tickets here.
