Summer is on its merry way, and it’s time to get out and enjoy the sunshine at the Leisure Isle Festival 2016! Bring your friends, your cousins, your mom, your granny and your dog, because this is a festival fit for the whole family.
On the 5th and 6th of November, the Leisure Isle Festival will celebrate local talent and enthusiasm in a weekend of good old family fun. Shop at stalls offering an array of tastes, drinks and fresh produce, browse the arts and craft on display, spend hours perusing the books stalls or meander through the indigenous plant displays. Delicious home-baked bread, colourful jewellery and many a friendly face characterise this annual market. This is the perfect place to get some of your Christmas shopping done, and stock up on tasty homemade goods.
Shopping isn’t all the weekend has in store. There are a number of events and activities to keep everyone on their toes. Keep an eye out for the Doggie walk around the island, as well as the new and exciting event on the lineup. This year, Leisure Isle is making an extra effort to get the grannies and grandpas of Knysna involved, and have introduced a brand new wheelchair walk that allows the elderly to walk or wheel their way around Thesen Island with the ones they love.
The festival takes place at Kingsway Park, and all proceeds go to a number of charities close to the community’s heart. Last year over R200k was raised, and fingers crossed that this year will be a record year! The proceeds of the 2016 Leisure Isle Festival will go to Knysna Animal Welfare Society (KAWS), e’Pap Children Feeding Scheme, Knysna/Sedgefield Hospice, Steenbok Nature Reserve, Vermont Old Age Home and Hands and Hearts Centre – incorporating Emzini.
Come and support local entrepreneurs and causes, taste scrumptious food and drink, and take part in an afternoon of entertainment and activities that the whole family can enjoy.
