Despite the ravaging effects of the Knysna and Plettenberg Bay fires, the 2017 Knysna Oyster Festival was an unbridled success, attracting over 5000 people to the popular seaside town.
The festival, which took place from 7 to 16 July this year, was a true representation of what happens when a community binds together in the face of disaster. As was hoped, the massive support for the festival will assist local businesses – and the town in general – to begin the process of rebuilding and restoration.
Over the course of the weekend, sporting enthusiasts were treated to a variety of events, such as the Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour, the Forest Family Dam Ride, the Big5 Sport Challenge, the Momentum Knysna Forest Marathon, and Europcar Knysna Classic. Foodies were spoiled for choice at Pick n Pay Seafood Wednesday, which included a fish braai competition, an oyster eating and shucking competition, and a Knysna oyster showcase. Last, but not least, in terms of entertainment, festival attendees were treated to comedy shows, markets, fashion shows and various live performances.
To add salt in the wound for those who didn’t make it to the Knysna Oyster Festival this year, and to provide some joyful reminiscence for those who did, we’ve put together a photoblog highlighting all the fun that was had!
