What to Expect at the Knysna Art Festival 2018

Looking for a way to celebrate the awe-inspiring talent of South African artists? The Knysna Art Festival 2018 is just the place to do it!

From the Monday the 19th until Saturday the 24th of February 2018, the sleepy town of Knysna will flourish with art, drama and music. The Knysna Arts Festival 2018 is made up of there different mediums: Visual Arts, Performing Arts, and the Fringe, each of which offers something unique and bound to impress. Here we’ll detail what you can expect, and what you should be sure to look out for.

Visual Arts

This year showcases an array of visual artists in the form of painters, sketches and sculptures. Browse the exceptional talent of over 28 artists in a number of locations around Knysna. Look out for the stunning seascapes of Sally Bekker, the atmospheric country scenes of Peter Barrett, or the jaw-dropping life size sculptures by Italia Greig. Performing Arts

Make sure not to miss the two main performances at this year’s  Knysna Art Festival: El Blanco Tales of the Mariachi and the Snow Goose.

El Blanco Tales of the Mariachi

This show-stopping performance piece by Gwydion Beynon, weaves a tale of a man trying to earn the title of ‘mariachi’. Through music and storytelling, El Blanco presents a theatrical masterpiece that deals with truth, lies and the struggle of pursuing your dreams. This critically acclaimed play starring James Cairns won the Golden Ovation Award and the Pebble Trust Bursary in 2015, so will undoubtedly make for a fun-filled Friday night.

The Snow Goose

An adaptation of the classic Paul Gallico novel, Snow Goose is a story of unlikely friendship that takes place in the 1930’s in Essex. This heart-warming play explores themes of friendship, compassion and kindness and is a fine example of what theatre can achieve in this country.

On the Fringe

With a number of different events from the 21st until the 23rd of February, the On the Fringe section of the festival offers workshops and talks across a wide range of topics.
