Babylonstoren Wine Pairing 29 August 2019

For this month’s Food & Wine Pairing Evening, we bring you a taste of the Cape winelands. On Thursday 29 August 2019, we will be partnering with Babylonstoren Vineyards – one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms in South Africa to bring you an evening of delightful food and wine. Enjoy an array of dishes accompanied by Babylonstoren’s most popular wines with live music by international musician KeeZee.

Menu

Arrival canape

Grilled vegetable sushi paired with Chenin Blanc 2019.

Babylonstoren’s Chenin Blanc is a light, crisp, dry wine that is fruit driven and juicy. Unwooded and refreshing with lovely guava, pineapple and winter melon flavours rounded off with a hint of fresh green figs and Packham pear undertones.

Amuse Bouche

Cucumber & greek yoghurt Gazpacho paired with Viognier 2019.

The Viognier showcases layers of fresh peaches with dried apricot and blossom aromas. A floral nose and lime zest finish complete the perfect balance.

First course

Line fish with homemade tagliatelle pasta and citrus paired with Chardonnay 2017

The 2017 Chardonnay has a classy, sleek structure with subtle citrus fruit softened with textured creaminess, vanilla and nutty complexity.

Second course

Oxtail stew with mirepoix and pecorino paired with Shiraz 2016

The Shiraz tastes of cherry and soft prune – dark fruit flavours. It has a surprisingly fresh mid-palate, velvety mouth-feel and long, lingering finish.

Main course

Dry aged ribeye with molasses beef jus, baby marrown puree and a rich polenta cake paired with Nebukadnesar 2016

Nebukadnesar is a superbly crafted wine, with a good balance of vibrant, multi-layered dark red fruits supported by tight, well-honed tannins. It is opulent yet sophisticated with a long, compelling finish. Satisfying now, but with time will develop and unfold its many treasures.

Dessert

Dark chocolate fondant with chocolate soil and kahlua ice-cream paired with Babel Red 2019

The Babel Red is a balanced fusion of dark red berry and chocolate flavours with a juicy, lingering finish. Look out for notes of pencil shavings, liquorice and sweet tobacco with mulberry and dark
cherry chocolate on the nose.
