Knysna is about to have an inundation of mountain bikes as the BUCO Dr. Evil Classic and BUCO Karoo to Coast events are just around the corner. As two of the most popular cycling events on the calendar, athletes from both near and far swarm to the Garden Route to take on the challenge. If you’re unfamiliar with the races, Dr. Evil will take place from 19-21 September and Karoo to Coast on 22 September 2019.
Dr. Evil Classic
A 3-stage race designed to complement and explore its destination, the challenge takes riders from the plains of Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve, through Kurland Estate, and along to the seaside Cairnbrogie Dairy Farm. Each track has been designed for a fun, scenic ride over a spectrum of terrains perfect for all keen mountain bikers.
The first stage of this 3-day event will include a new venue comprising a Game Farm and Forest area in the beautiful Plettenberg Bay. The track is 70km of single and jeep track in mountain bike heaven.
Day 2 takes athletes through the immaculate Kurland Estate on a 50km ride past the polo ponies and across some scenic tracks before heading home to prepare for Stage 3.
The third and final day sees cyclists tackle another 50km single track through Cairnbrogie Dairy Farm. Competitors will enjoy 20km’s of seaside bliss making their way along the Coastal Corridor and a further 30km to complete the event.
Each day has a Start, Finish, lunch and prize giving. The final prize ceremony will take place on day 3 to announce the overall placings for the event.
BUCO Karoo to Coast MTB
Just one day after the Dr. Evil Classic is BUCO’s Karoo to Coast 100km MTB Challenge. This off road race takes competitors from Uniondale to Knysna via Price Alfred’s Pass. Although scenic, the route is challenging and all riders are encouraged to train sufficiently to get maximum enjoyment out of the event.
Entries have now closed, however, substitutions are permissible until 30 August 2019. Visit the website for more information.
