A firm favourite for bookworms and wordsmiths across the country, the 11th annual Knysna Literary Festival will take place from 6 – 8 March 2020. This time round, all events will take place at selected venues on our very own Thesen Islands, with 4 book readings due to be hosted at the Turbine itself.

Presented by Pam Golding Properties Knysna, the Knysna Literary Festival both exposes visitors to the country’s literary talent and provides authors with a platform to truly connect with their readers. The list of authors making an appearance this year includes Qaanitah Hunter, Anthea Gardner, Adriaan Basson, Mandla Langa, Karen Dudley, Nechama Brodie and Kgotsi Chikane.

Aside from book readings, writing competitions will be held for school-goers in the area, encouraging reading and writing amongst the younger generation. As Ling Dobson, Principal of Pam Golding Properties Knysna, said: “Our goal is to stimulate the creative minds of students of the greater Knysna area, encouraging these young adults to make the most of their educational opportunities.”

A Comrades Qualifier and highlight on the South African annual sporting calendar, the Remax Coastal Knysna Heads Marathon takes place on 8 March 2020. Departing from Thesen Islands, runners have the choice of a 5km fun run, a 10km route (for ASA Registered athletes), a 21.1km route (for ASA Registered athletes) and a 42.2km route(for ASA Registered athletes).

The highest point is just 30m above sea level and the route mostly hugs the Knysna lagoon, so the race is both fast and scenic. Medals will be awarded to all finishers who complete the race within the cut-off time: Gold to 42km finishers, Silver to those who finsih the 21km and Bronze to 10km finishers.
