The newest attraction to make its way to our bustling seaside town is Knysna Ziplines. Operated by SA Forest Adventures in association with SANParks, a total of four ziplines criss-cross across the Kranshoek Gorge between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. The ziplines are over 2.2km in length, with the longest measuring 700m. They also reach more than 200m in height, making for some incredible views of the Indian Ocean and lush forest below.
The project was officially launched by SANParks and SA Forest Adventures back in 2016, however, the devastating Knysna fires halted production in 2017 for over a year. Work started back up again in late 2018, and the project was completed just before the start of South Africa’s national lockdown in March 2020. SANParks estimate that this exciting new activity will attract an additional 10,000 or more visitors to the park in its first year of operation.
Knysna Ziplines is situated in the Knysna Lakes section of the Garden Route National Park. The main office is located at Harkerville Forest Lodge, just 20km from Knysna. All adventurers must make their way to the office before driving into the park for registration and safety paperwork.
Perfect for an exhilarating mid-week outing, they are currently offering South African residents an exclusive opening special of R400 per person for weekdays in October 2020 (Sunday – Friday). From November 2020 onwards the rate will be R800 per person. In mid-November, the team plans to expand their offering by introducing two more cables to the line-up.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, bookings are absolutely essential and can be made via their website: www.knysnaziplines.co.za. SA Forest Adventures also offer to drive you into the park in a suitable vehicle for R150 per person, or you can opt for self-drive at no additional cost. Another exciting option is GoPro rental for just R300, allowing you to relive the experience over and over again.
