What’s The Story?
Over 65 mosaic artworks grace Sedgefield’s public spaces, culminating in what many call the Sedgefield Mosaic Route.
This community project was originally launched back in 2008, initiated by the beloved local NGO Masithandane (“let us love one another”). The project was designed to offer skills development and upliftment to disadvantaged community members by teaching them the art of mosaicing.
Each of the mosaics you’ll see in town has its own story and artistic flair. One standout location is The Octopus Garden Under The Sea, located near the Scarab Market. Another iconic piece is Slow, Citta and Skills – three large tortoises that represent Sedgefield’s community-centric ethos and remind us all to live life at a slower pace.

Where Do I Find The Sculptures?
For a truly immersive experience, we recommend downloading a digital Mosaic Route Map before setting off.
This self-guided route takes you to over 65 mosaics across Sedgefield, and each stop reveals a little more about the town’s heart – from war memorials to sculptures that celebrate family.
For those who want to dive deeper into the artistry behind these mosaic sculptures, Masithandane also offers guided tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
These tours provide attendees with an opportunity to meet the talented artists behind the mosaics and hear their stories.
If you’re feeling particularly creative, Masithandane also offers workshops and mosaic parties, ideal for groups or families who want to try their hand at creating their own masterpiece.
For more information on tours, workshops, and events, visit Masithandane or email info@visitknysna.co.za.
